Business backs walk to beat breast cancer

STAFF from Employ Recruitment UK Ltd joined hundreds of walkers including fellow local businesses at Carsington Water on Saturday (May 17) for The Ashbourne Breast Cancer Walk.

A team of 14 ladies from the Ashbourne based logistics company, including company managing director Sadie Alcock, stepped out alongside staff from BPhysical, Peak Waste, Mick the Plumber and Raptor Grafix, who all helped to sponsor the annual event and raise money through the sale of walk T-shirts.

The walk was started in 2009 by friends Josie Winbow and Clare Brennan after one of their friends was diagnosed with breast cancer. Over the years which have followed the event has raised an impressive sum to date of £75,000 towards this worthy cause.

Sadie Alcock of Employ Recruitment UK, said: “We were delighted to support the walk this year, because as a company of largely female staff, breast cancer is a cause which is close to our heart.

“All of the companies supporting the event aimed to sell as many special T-shirts as possible, and so far we have raised just over £1,000 which is wonderful and will obviously be put to good use by the breast cancer unit at the Royal Derby Hospital.

“The weather was perfect on the day and we all thoroughly enjoyed it, so I hope even more people will come and support the walk next year so we can raise even more and beat this terrible disease.”
