RECRUITMENT company Employ Recruitment UK are destined to deliver drivers in the build-up to the festive season, ensuring that clients can fulfil their pressing contracts for pre-Christmas deliveries.
DVSA data reveals that 664,000 professional drivers had completed their Driver CPC by the September 10 deadline. From that date, it is an offence for many lorry drivers to continue driving if they have not completed 35 hours of approved training in the past five years. As such, the Freight Transport Association recently highlighted serious concerns over the readiness of agency drivers, which industry usually calls upon to handle the Christmas peak.
Sally Gilson, FTA’s Skills Policy Development Manager said: “Not all Christmas presents arrive by magic. The ones we order online and buy in shops for friends and relatives, along with all the food and drink we buy in for parties and Christmas lunch, are delivered every year by the logistics industry. This massive peak in demand leads to heavy use of agency drivers.”
The Ashbourne based logistics specialist, Employ Recruitment Ltd, whose clients include Sainsbury’s, DHL and Marston’s brewery provides JAUPT accredited periodic CPC driver training covering all CPC driver training modules. The company is set to allay concerns pre-Christmas by plugging the gap for skilled agency workers and supplying a pool of CPC compliant drivers.
DVSA chief executive Alistair Peoples said: “Driver CPC has a lot to offer and by keeping their skills up to date professional drivers are helping to make Britain’s roads amongst the safest in the world.”
Paul Keyworth, Commercial Director at Employ Recruitment UK Ltd said: “Christmas always bring challenges for the logistics industry as great demands are placed on hauliers by the major retailers, often spiking demand for drivers by over 200%. Our clients, however, work with us well to give us as much information as possible which allows us to plan our resource across the peak, thus ensuring a high level of fulfilment. Whilst Christmas is always a challenge, we look forward to it and rise to the occasion, often achieving the seemingly impossible for our drivers and clients alike”.
